About this month's theme:

Black women have always been at the forefront of the fight for justice, even when racism tried to exclude them from the conversation. This month, we’re diving into the real story of women’s suffrage and centering Black women who refused to be sidelined. We’re breaking down the Ida B. Wells vs. Frances Willard conflict, unpacking the whitewashing of School House Rock's take on women's suffrage, and shining a light on Black suffragists with flashcards, a crossword puzzle, an art print, and a coloring page. Black women weren’t just part of the suffrage movement—they were shaping it.

The Freedom School Subscription could not have come across my radar at a more appropriate time! It is a beautiful homage to our forbears who struggled to have their humanity recognized. These poignant tools have helped remind me (as I teach my young children) that we have more personal power than we realize, and that by putting these tools into practice, we are being lights and giving others permission to be the same.

Top Notch!

These resources are so well-cultivated and beautifully designed. For our middle school Advisory lessons this month, we used the Principles of Nonviolence document, the MLK Quote game, and the Timeline. They were all were perfect for our honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. and his role as a changemaker. Thank you SO much for these top notch resources each month!

Freedom School Resources

Oh Happy Dani uses her amazing art, creativity and way with words to help bring her research to life for students young and old. As we continue to battle the historical erasure of Black contributions, creativity, resistance, joy, oppression, community, struggle, faith and beauty, Freedom School tells us the stories we all need to remember. Every month I feel a little lift when I read through the packet. I use it for me, for my children, and even with my college students. Brandi
